Nursery--Curtains

Well, Christopher's bedroom is finally done and he is sleeping in his own bed every night.  The nursery was almost finished before he was born but then took a seat on the back burner for awhile after we came home from the hospital.  It is now complete and we can finally appreciate the work that went into putting it all together.

I will start by showing you all of the little pieces that went into the making of this room and then give you the "whole picture" at the end.

First up was the curtains.  Some of you will recognize that this material actually came from a shower curtain that I found at Target.  I had a vision in my mind of what I wanted and try as I might, I could not find actual curtains or even material from the fabric store that gave me what I wanted.

When I saw this shower curtain, however, I loved it.  I knew that we were having a boy and so I wanted the nursery to have a more masculine feel.  I also wanted to stay away from the cutesy "baby" fabrics.  Definitely not my style.  Since we were not repainting the room, I actually had to work with the pale green and I felt like this pattern works perfectly with that color while also subtly introducing a few new colors.

The same fabric was used as a dust ruffle on the crib and in a few throw pillows for the bed so you will see it repeated in the room to help tie everything together.

Lake Michigan

One of the best things about living in West Michigan is that Lake Michigan is literally in your backyard.  Christopher loves the beach (especially the sand!)  We didn't go into the water today because the water was extremely rough and the red flags were flying, but we did enjoy watching all of the surfers out on the water.  I'm not going to lie, I had no idea that surfing was so popular here in Michigan!

This picture was taken about 2 seconds before he tried to eat that handful of sand. Oops!  Apparently it looked might tasty!

Hanging out with Matt and Claire

Christopher finally had a chance to meet his cousins.  Claire is such a joy to watch around Christopher as she dotes on him hand and foot.
Don't worry Matt--once he starts walking he will be your little shadow!

Upcycled Alabama Cork Board

Chris came home earlier this summer with an old cork board that had clearly seen better days.  This cork board was well loved.  "Can you fix this up for me?" are the words that come out of his mouth.

Yep.  I love my husband, but he brings me home a million little projects.

I let the cork board sit for a little while until I could decide exactly how I was going to salvage it.  Luckily I had purchased some University of Alabama fabric last time we were in Alabama with plans to make my husband something for Christmas.
I decided the quick and easy approach was the best one to cross this project off my list.  A little black spray paint to cover the old wooden frame and I adhered the fabric directly onto the cork with a little spray adhesive.  A quick afternoon project that he loves.  Roll Tide!

Spending quality time with Nana & Papa

Christopher and I made a short trip to Nana & Papa's house to pick up the Explorer which turned into a long weekend when I became sick with a nasty stomach virus.  Thank goodness Nana and Papa were there to help!  Christopher had a great time and loved spending time with everyone.  Thank you!
You just may lose that fishing hat Papa--I think he likes it!
