Christopher's New Hat

Christopher received a very special gift in the mail today from our cousin Jennifer.  This girl is talented!  The hat came not a moment too soon as the weather is predicted to drop on Monday.  No more crazy warm days, winter is definitely on its way.  Thank you Jennifer for making Christopher his first winter hat.  We will treasure it, and I can assure you that it will get plenty of use up here in the snow!

Happy Veterans Day!

With many thanks on Veterans Day to all of the men and women who have served and those who are currently serving in our armed forces!

Da Bears--Season Opener

Another beautiful day with my favorite kind of weather--cool and very autumn-like.  A perfect day for a little football.  We opened all of the windows and spent the afternoon watching the Bears' season opener against the Colts.

I took advantage of the opportunity to put together a few football party snacks for us to have while we watched the game.
Fried chicken, smoked vienna sausages in barbeque sauce, and homemade pepperoni pizza rolls.  Yum!
Go Bears!

Apple Picking

We took advantage of the beautiful fall weather to take a trip to Wisconsin to go apple picking.

A short tractor ride to the apple orchard...
Christopher had to inspect our first apple.  A little quality control...
A little time with mom while daddy picked the high apples...
Yep, those beautiful apples that no one else can reach...
And finally, eating the fruits of our labors...
Definitely not the cheapest way to buy apples, but worth every penny for the chance to go apple picking as a family, one of my favorite fall activities.  (That and the fresh apple cider donuts!)

Labor Day

Chris, Christopher and I spent Labor Day in Michigan this year.  We had beautiful weather and minimal crowds which helped us to really enjoy celebrating the end of summer.
We enjoyed grilling out before heading to the beach to stick our feet in the water and watch the sun set over the lake.
Christopher always enjoys his time at the beach.

But I think he may have decided that he likes going out for ice cream at the General Store even more!  Don't let that look fool you...Nana hooked him up with some vanilla and he was loving it!

Happy Labor Day 2012!

Are You Ready for Some Football?

I love fall.  I love everything about fall.  The leaves changing color,  hot chocolate, sweater weather, apple picking, hot apple cider and cider donuts, pumpkins, Thanksgiving and of!  Michigan opens their season tonight against Alabama.  Lucky for me, Chris is working so I can dress Christopher in his Maize & Blue and cheer on Michigan!  Go Blue!

Aug 23, 2012

Well, Christopher's bedroom is finally done and he is sleeping in his own bed every night.  The nursery was almost finished before he was born but then took a seat on the back burner for awhile after we came home from the hospital.  It is now complete and we can finally appreciate the work that went into putting it all together.

I will start by showing you all of the little pieces that went into the making of this room and then give you the "whole picture" at the end.

First up was the curtains.  Some of you will recognize that this material actually came from a shower curtain that I found at Target.  I had a vision in my mind of what I wanted and try as I might, I could not find actual curtains or even material from the fabric store that gave me what I wanted.

When I saw this shower curtain, however, I loved it.  I knew that we were having a boy and so I wanted the nursery to have a more masculine feel.  I also wanted to stay away from the cutesy "baby" fabrics.  Definitely not my style.  Since we were not repainting the room, I actually had to work with the pale green and I felt like this pattern works perfectly with that color while also subtly introducing a few new colors.

The same fabric was used as a dust ruffle on the crib and in a few throw pillows for the bed so you will see it repeated in the room to help tie everything together.

Lake Michigan

One of the best things about living in West Michigan is that Lake Michigan is literally in your backyard.  Christopher loves the beach (especially the sand!)  We didn't go into the water today because the water was extremely rough and the red flags were flying, but we did enjoy watching all of the surfers out on the water.  I'm not going to lie, I had no idea that surfing was so popular here in Michigan!

This picture was taken about 2 seconds before he tried to eat that handful of sand. Oops!  Apparently it looked might tasty!

Hanging out with Matt and Claire

Christopher finally had a chance to meet his cousins.  Claire is such a joy to watch around Christopher as she dotes on him hand and foot.
Don't worry Matt--once he starts walking he will be your little shadow!

Upcycled Alabama Cork Board

Chris came home earlier this summer with an old cork board that had clearly seen better days.  This cork board was well loved.  "Can you fix this up for me?" are the words that come out of his mouth.

Yep.  I love my husband, but he brings me home a million little projects.

I let the cork board sit for a little while until I could decide exactly how I was going to salvage it.  Luckily I had purchased some University of Alabama fabric last time we were in Alabama with plans to make my husband something for Christmas.
I decided the quick and easy approach was the best one to cross this project off my list.  A little black spray paint to cover the old wooden frame and I adhered the fabric directly onto the cork with a little spray adhesive.  A quick afternoon project that he loves.  Roll Tide!

Spending quality time with Nana & Papa

Christopher and I made a short trip to Nana & Papa's house to pick up the Explorer which turned into a long weekend when I became sick with a nasty stomach virus.  Thank goodness Nana and Papa were there to help!  Christopher had a great time and loved spending time with everyone.  Thank you!
You just may lose that fishing hat Papa--I think he likes it!

Watching the Olympics

Christopher and  I have been watching the Olympics and cheering on Team USA.  I'm not sure if he is liking the Olympic games or the fact that I am letting him watch TV.  Either way, he decided that he didn't want to pay attention to me anymore--whatever was on the TV was infinitely more entertaining!

P.S.  Thanks to Nana and Papa (and ultimately Adam & Anne) for the Hop 'n Pop!

Two Teeth!

After a VERY long night for all of us, Christopher has his first two teeth!  He is all smiles today thank goodness.  I sure hope the rest all come in all at once because last night was brutal and none of us got any sleep!

Jul 17, 2012

On July 17, 1902  Willis Carrier invented the first modern electrical air-conditioning unit in Buffalo, New York.  Thank You Mr. Carrier!   With the heat wave that we have been having recently, I am extremely thankful that we have air-conditioning!  After weeks of this scorching heat, I like to remind myself of the cold days in January where I begged for summer to arrive and save me from my cold-induced misery. What was I thinking? That snow is looking mighty nice right about now. How about you? Are you a winter person or a summer person? Or are you like me--I long for the hot days of summer in the dead of winter and I pine for the snowy cold days when I am melting in the heat.

Rolling Over

Christopher can now easily roll over on his own and he has become a crazy rolling kid!  Ever single time I put him down on his back--he rolls over.  Every. Single. Time.  He is such a happy little boy.  Chris & I are truly blessed.  Hope you enjoy the short little video of his newest feat.  Next up--Crawling!

Happy Birthday Stephanie

I am so thankful that Christopher and I were able to celebrate Stephanie's birthday with her.  We had a delicious lunch at Pereddie's.  I'm not going to lie, I was hoping to see some beautiful tulips while we were in town, but alas, the tulips were pretty much done before Tulip Time even started.  We saw a whole lot of stems.  Oh well, maybe next year!  Happy Birthday Stephanie!  Hope you enjoyed your day!
